The project is for the provision of new facilities at Carnfunnock Country Park which is situated on the Antrim Coast Road (A2), 3.5 miles north of Larne town and Larne Harbour and just over 20 miles from Belfast. The park comprises of 191-acre parkland providing a range of recreational activities.
Opened in 1990, Council recognised the need to develop the park to better cater for an expanding range of visitors. At present, there are accessibility issues plus the existing visitor centre and amenity block are dated, lack energy efficiency and are no longer fit for purpose.
Funding secured by the Council through the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities will transform this popular site, improving current amenities and introducing exciting new additions to the area. The redevelopment will not only make a significant impact on the park – future proofing it for years to come - but also benefit the surrounding area.
The project will enable the parklands to be reinvigorated through the upgrade of its visitor centre and tourist amenities. It will also provide additional activities for older children/adults.
