As well as a swimming pool, gym and sports hall, the new facility will have 鈥榝lexible community facilities鈥� for public meetings, including a debating chamber.
Council leader George Dunning said that Willmott Dixon had 鈥渁 sound track record of creating facilities that meet the needs of the community鈥�.
Willmott Dixon managing director in the north, Anthony Dillon, said: 鈥淭his regeneration heralds an exciting new future for Redcar, something that will make a genuine and lasting difference to the entire community.鈥�
The contractor has committed to spending 83% of the 2012 budget for the scheme and 87% of the 2013 budget within a 60 mile radius of Redcar.
