The company has been active for more than four years in Brazil, where the volume of work and future potential has led to the creation of a Brazilian subsidiary and the opening of the new office in São Paulo. Ongoing work is in the mining, automotive and financial sectors and the company also has new commissions within the banking industry.
A permanent presence has also been established in Lima, Peru, which will enable Turner & Townsend to enhance support of existing clients in the region and capitalise on opportunities. Mining is a dominant part of the Peruvian economy and an area where the firm operates, but the intention is to also increase involvement in infrastructure and power programmes.
Expatriate experts set up and support operations in their infancy then transition across to local staff as soon as is viable, providing ongoing support as needed.
Mark Wainwright, global managing director of the firms’ mining operations and regional managing director of the South American operation, said: "These are extremely exciting developments for our business in South America and we are confident that the addition of these offices will enhance the impact we are able to make within the business communities."
