Three shortlisted for Birmingham’s £35m Digital Plaza

7 Mar 12 Birmingham Science Park Aston (BSPA) has shortlisted three companies to develop the proposed £35m Digital Plaza.

Bruntwood, Thomas Vale Construction and Trebor Developments/Hortons Estate consortium have been selected from 80 initial expressions of interest received. The joint venture partner will be chosen this summer and a planning application will then be prepared.聽

The site is next to the Park鈥檚 Faraday Wharf building, off the A38 Aston Expressway.聽 The Digital Plaza plan is for a total gross area of over 100,000 sq ft within four buildings. The first building will be a 鈥檋igh-tech business incubation centre鈥 to be named iCentrumTM.

Subject to planning, construction work could commence speculatively on the iCentrum building - which is expected to be 40,000 sq ft 鈥 before the end of the year.聽

BSPA is wholly owned by Birmingham City Council. Council leader Mike Whitby, chairman of the Park, said: 鈥淭he Park already enjoys an international profile, and the Digital Plaza with the new iCentrum building will create a science park fit for 2020 and beyond here in the heart of Birmingham. I am delighted that the plans are progressing so well and that a joint venture partner will be announced in the coming months.鈥
