Thousands to stand down for Stop. Make a Change.

18 Apr 17 Thousands of construction workers across the UK are downing tools this morning as part of a nationwide safety initiative.

The stand-down is the initiative of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), through a campaign called Stop. Make a Change.Ìý

Stop. Make a Change. takes place today (18th April 2017) with companies involved making commitments relating to four key health, safety and wellbeing topics – mental health, plant safety, fatigue, and respiratory illness. Between 10 am and noon, work will stop work for safety talks. Each business will decide on their own commitments and will use the event to brief staff and suppliers about them.

More than 50 organisations have signed up to support the initiative and more than 1,000 sites, office and production facilities are expected to take part.

Founding partners are BAM Nuttall, Balfour Beatty, Carillion, Costain, Crossrail, Environment Agency, Heathrow Airport, Highways England, HS2, Lagan Construction, Morgan Sindall, Network Rail, Skanska, Tideway and VolkerWessels UK.

Also backing the initiative are Amiante STR, Cemex, Cheetham Hill Construction, Clancy Docwra, CSCS, Farrans, Ferrovial Agroman, Galliford Try, Gatwick Airport, Hochtief, HZ Inova, Institution of Civil Engineers, MB Roche & Sons, McLaughlin & Harvey, Morrison Construction, Raymond Brown Construction, Scottish Water and Transport Scotland.
