Terex unveils successor to CC 2800-1

19 Nov 12 The new Superlift 3800 lattice boom crawler crane is Terex’s successor to its well-established 650-tonne capacity CC 2800-1.

Maximum load moment of the German-built crane is 8,426 tonne metres.

Redesigned from the ground up, new features include a fall protection system for walking along the boom when laid out flat, and a railing around the superstructure.

Side outriggers are now available with hydraulic cylinders and pressure sensors to allow the operator to monitor ground pressure when mounting or dismounting long main boom lengths.

Despite higher rigidity, Terex managed to reduce the weight of the basic machine by 17 tonnes improving the crane鈥檚 transportability. The measurements and the weight of components have been designed for ease of transport, including additional hoisting points on components including central hoisting points and hydraulic motors positioned within the track frame reducing transport size and preventing them from being damaged during transportation.

Lifting capacities have been improved around 20% overall in comparison to the predecessor, Terex says.

鈥淲hen we started this project, we set ambitious goals鈥, said project director Hans-Peter Franzen. 鈥淎nd I am proud to say that we exceeded them.鈥

System rigidity has been improved, for example the light extension LF can now lift loads up to 178 tonnes.

The Superlift 3800 can be delivered with an integrated wind kit in a universal main boom system: the crane is capable to erect wind turbines of 117m without using the available superlift boom configuration.听 An assist crane is not required to help erect the main boom.

鈥淭his is a very important launch for Terex,鈥 said Terex Cranes president Kevin Bradley. 鈥淚mproving on an already great crane, we created a completely new one by leveraging our customer driven innovation process which combines our experience with a focus on solving the needs of the customer.鈥
