Cheshire East Borough Council has put out the call for engineering companies to help it realise its dream of exploiting geothermal energy.

The council has been investigating the potential for geothermal energy for several years. In February received a 拢200,000 grant from the Department for Energy & Climate Change for further feasibility studies in the Leighton area of Crewe.

The council has now published a contract notice seeking 鈥渁n appropriately experienced and driven company to help us achieve our aspirations and deliver this exciting and innovative project鈥.

The contract notice calls for a geothermal delivery partner to provide technical design services, including architecture, engineering, urban planning and scientific analysis.

The capital value of the initial project is estimated at 拢30m but as it is not possible to say how far this project could go, future projects could increase this value significantly.

鈥淒ue to nature of this project and contract, and the unknown final solution, it is not feasible to attach an estimated value at this stage, nor a contract duration,鈥 the council says.
