Under the agreement, which began in April 2017 and runs for up to 12 years, Tarmac will deliver pavement resurfacing across 440 km of motorway and arterial link roads around London.

The contract scope includes resurfacing, fine milling and joint sealing across the M25 to reduce whole-life costs and minimise maintenance demands on the network.聽聽聽

The contract represents a continuation of Tarmac鈥檚 previous five-year deal with Connect Plus.

Paul Fleetham, managing director of Tarmac Contracting, said: 鈥淭his major award reflects our strong working relationship with Connect Plus and our proven track record of close collaboration with network operators to improve network capacity, minimise disruption and prioritise the safety of road users.聽

鈥淎s well as providing skilled delivery and technical expertise, we will draw on our extensive asphalt plant network in the south east to provide on-demand access to high-quality materials.鈥

Connect Plus commercial director Chris Richardson said: 鈥淲e are excited to be working with a group of highly motivated and skilled suppliers to take the 30 year DBFO concession successfully through the next ten years and beyond, which we are confident will be achieved through closer integration and a relentless focus on innovation and efficiency.鈥

With and having withdrawn in the past six months, the Connect Plus consortium is these days owned by Balfour Beatty Investments, investment fund Edge Orbital Holdings and French state-owned engineer Egis Projects. It has a 30-year design-build-finance-operate contract that started in May 2009 to operate and maintain the M25 motorway network on behalf of Highways England.
