As the latest in a series of initiatives in the company鈥檚 sustainability strategy, the first vehicle to be delivered is now in use on site at Apollo鈥檚 project for the London Borough of Camden.
Barry McCarthy, Apollo鈥檚 Operations Manager in Camden, said: 鈥淭hese electric cars will make a fantastic contribution to our energy efficiency on site, and have the added advantage of an excellent safety record, and capacity to carry up to four people.聽 It will be great to see them being rolled out to other projects.鈥
The four-seat iOn boasts zero tailpipe CO2 emissions; takes a maximum of eight hours to charge from a domestic socket; and can then run for up to 93 miles, depending on the driving conditions.聽 The capital offers a number of facilities for re-charging electric cars.聽
The iOn has proved such a success in Camden that two additional vehicles are now on order for Apollo鈥檚 project with Merton Priory Homes 鈥 also in London.聽
Phil Robson, Fleet Director from Peugeot said:聽 鈥淭he iOn range could have been designed with Apollo鈥檚 London sites in mind.聽 Not only does it have excellent credentials in reducing the impact of vehicle tailpipe CO2 emissions, but it is exempt from the London congestion charge and can park at no cost in some areas.聽 We are delighted that Apollo has purchased further iOn vehicles from us, and we hope that other construction companies will follow Apollo鈥檚 lead.鈥
Apollo鈥檚 existing fleet already contains some hybrid cars, making the addition of electric vehicles the next logical step.
