Stepnell cuts paper and reduces carbon footprint

25 Oct 11 Construction and civil engineering firm Stepnell has reduced its carbon footprint by switching to a new ‘paperlite’ document management solution.

All the company鈥檚 documents are now stored electronically rather than through a paper-based system 鈥 a move that is set to save the company 1,200 person-days a year by removing the need to print, file and retrieve paperwork manually.

鈥淚ntroducing the Causeway system is a key part of our drive to shrink our carbon footprint by cutting paper use to a minimum,鈥 says Stepnell managing director Mark Wakeford.

鈥淥ther benefits of the new document management system include a powerful search facility enabling documents and drawings to be located and retrieved more quickly. There will also be significant savings in costs associated with printing, postage, waste and storage. Another important advantage is that our clients are able to access the new system. This means that documentation relating to particular schemes can be instantly shared, making it easier to implement collaborative working on projects.鈥
