Construction and civil engineering company Stepnell has created the new state-of-the-art facility on behalf of Mercia Crematoria and Dignity plc in Old Wells Road. It is the seventh crematorium Stepnell has built for the company in the UK.
Built using locally-sourced construction materials, the new crematorium features cutting-edge environmental engineering including mercury gas abatement technology, helping the facility to meet new EU emission guidelines which come into force in 2013.
To reduce construction time on the 10-month scheme, the building鈥檚 architectural joinery windows and doors were manufactured by Stepnell off-site. The company has also carried out extensive landscaping and created a memorial garden as part of the project.
鈥淲e have built up an excellent relationship with Mercia Crematoria and Dignity plc and are delighted to be handing over this latest new facility,鈥 says Mark Wakeford, Stepnell managing director. 鈥淲ith EU legislation on emissions set to change in two years鈥 time, we鈥檝e used all of our expertise in crematoria construction and knowledge of the most up-to-date technical solutions to ensure that the building will meet the new regulations.鈥
鈥淒ignity is committed to providing high-class facilities which reduce the travelling time for local residents,鈥 says Steve Gant, Dignity plc general manager 鈥 crematoria. 鈥淟onger service times will be offered, along with the development of beautiful tranquil grounds to enable the bereaved to remember their loved ones.鈥
