Spurs commit to new stadium

1 Feb 12 Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has reached a deal with Haringey Council to build a new 56,000-seater stadium next door to its current White Hart Lane home.

In a joint statement, the club and council said that they would work together to regenerate the local area.

Haringey council has pledged 拢9m towards new and improved public spaces around the stadium and London Mayor Boris Johnson is adding a further 拢18m funding for the regeneration of north Tottenham, 拢6m of which will be invested via the council in highways and parking improvements and a district-wide heating and power scheme. The rest of the mayor鈥檚 investment will focus on public transport and infrastructure improvements.

For its part, Spurs is committing to its 拢400m聽and dropping any ideas of trying to move to the Olympic stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy said: 鈥淲e have long said we could only invest in the area if we could see our commitment supported by others and that there was a real need to maximise the regeneration benefits and lift the wider area. We therefore see this as a commitment from the public sector to the Tottenham area and one which strengthens our ability to deliver a new stadium scheme with the potential to kick-start the long-term regeneration of North Tottenham.鈥
