Speedy scoops second consecutive green apple award

6 Dec 10 Speedy has received a Green Apple award at the House of Commons for the second year running.

The award was given in recognition of the business鈥 Getting Greener from the Ground Up programme and GO Initiative.聽

Both schemes focus on the reduction of energy use by tools and equipment, the impact of construction on the environment, and carbon emissions by increasing awareness of the issues on site as well as promoting the use of greener products.聽

Speedy launched the industry鈥檚 first ever colour coded labelling system as part of the GO Initiative which provides information on the energy efficiency performance of certain tools and equipment.聽

Mark Turnbull, safety health environment and quality directorat Speedy, said: 鈥淥ur environmental programmes have been designed to inform people at all levels in the industry about their responsibility to reduce carbon emissions and choose the best equipment that will enable them to do so.聽

The Green Apple Awards 鈥搘hich are run by The Green Organisation - have been running for 16 years and more than 500 nominations were received this year. Previous winners includeCentrica, Laing O鈥橰ourke and United Utilities.聽

The Green Organisation鈥檚 supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and various other professional bodies.
