Skanska lands £154m Norwegian rail contract

18 Oct 11 Skanska has won a NOK1.36bn (£154m) contract to build a double-track railway on the Vestfold Line in Norway.

Client for the scheme is the Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket).

The Vestfold Line will contribute to a more efficient flow of traffic between Drammen and Porsgrunn, and the area around the Oslo Fjord will be better connected. The new route will cater for future train speeds of up to 250 km/hour. The contract Skanska has signed is for the Station and Fibo projects.

The Station project includes a 2,370m tunnel and a 866m station hall. Skanska will also construct 1,000m of drainage tunnels. The Fibo project features a 1,930m tunnel.

鈥漈his is an important project for us,鈥 said 聽Skanska Norway business unit president Petter Eiken. 鈥淭he project is completely in line with Skanska Norway鈥檚 strategy to be the best at large and complex civil construction projects. Therefore it is very gratifying that Jernbaneverket has chosen to work with us.鈥

The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2015.
