The No1 City Locks development will see student accommodation and retail facilities integrated with a rejuvenated section of Birmingham鈥檚 canal network, providing amenities to support the university鈥檚 expanding city centre presence.
聽The project has been developed by specialist student housing company Alumno Developments. It will house 659 students and is scheduled for completion by August 2016. The development is near the Bullring shopping centre in the city centre. The previously derelict site runs alongside the Digbeth Branch Canal and forms part of the city council鈥檚 Eastside Regeneration project
聽Birmingham City University鈥檚 campus already includes The Parkside Building, opened in 2013, The Curzon Building, opening this year, and a sizable presence in Millennium Point. Plans have also been submitted for a new 拢35m Conservatoire, set to start on site this summer and open to students and the public in 2017.
Plans for the No1 City Locks development, designed by Glenn Howell Architects, includes a ground floor with retail space and business enterprise units for student residents, graduates and the local community. DBK is providing project management, employer鈥檚 agent and CDMC services.
