Shepherd Construction is already on-site at the Heslington Campus, with a 拢14 million project to refurbish and modernise the 603.8m2 J B Morrell Library for the University鈥檚 12,500 students.聽
This new contract, which is due to start on-site on University Road later this month, will refurbish the existing three-storey building, converting it into a modern learning聽 and research facility called the Harry Fairhurst Library, and provide a ground floor link to the adjacent J B Morrell Library. The project is expected to be completed by April 2011.聽
Meanwhile, work on the main library refurbishment is progressing well with Shepherd Construction currently working on the third storey, having already completed the second floor.聽聽
Colin Sargeant, Shepherd Construction鈥檚 managing director for the East Division commented: 鈥淚t is great to have secured a further project with the University on the back of our current work at the Library, and having completed the development at Goodricke College last year. We look forward to continuing the relationship with the University which has already spanned several decades.鈥澛
The University鈥檚 Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Estates and Strategic Projects, Elizabeth Heaps, said: 鈥淲e are thrilled that our relationship with Shepherd Construction is continuing with our latest refurbishment project, following the successful completion of our superb Goodricke College last year and the ongoing modernisation of the main Library.聽 We are very pleased that we are able to work with a York-based company and support the local construction industry.鈥澛
