Severfield-Rowen wins Cheesegrater steelwork contract

18 Aug 11 Severfield-Rowen has been awarded the multi-million pound structural steelwork subcontract on The Leadenhall Building by main contractor Laing O'Rourke.

The 52-storey, 238m-high tower, dubbed the Cheesegrater because of its sloping profile, has been designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Arup for joint client British Land and Oxford Properties. It is set to become one of the tallest buildings in the City of London.

The 610,000 sq ft development will have a tapered glass fa莽ade on one side that will reveal the steel bracings combined with a complex ladder frame to enhance its vertical appearance.聽 The base will have a 30m high atrium.聽

Severfield-Rowen chief operating officer Peter Emerson said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious contract, which reflects the confidence by Laing O'Rourke in the group's engineering and construction skills.聽 We have a long track record of successful project delivery with Laing O'Rourke.聽 Leadenhall Street is a significant contract award for Severfield-Rowen and will be produced across all of our four manufacturing facilities in the UK.聽 The steelwork programme will commence later this year and complete during 2012.鈥
