The company which specialises in the design and installation of building services has won two major contracts for new build projects in the region, adding to the company鈥檚 continued success.
The first project involves SES working alongside main contractor Shepherd Construction in the delivery of new facilities that will house test rigs for full-scale wind and marine prototype devices on behalf of the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) at Blyth, Northumberland.
SES was initially appointed to provide base build services for the offshore wind turbine testing facilities and was later awarded the opportunity to create the infrastructure packages for the site.
The new facility, capable of testing blades up to 100m, is being built for the offshore wind industry and will be commissioned in early 2012.
SES is also involved with the services provision on a further building that will accommodate a 3Mw Drive Train Test Facility for wind and tidal turbines.
In a second appointment, SES is working with design and build contractor Tolent, on a building services installation project on behalf of Shepherd Offshore, for its tenant Bridon International Ltd, to create a fully functioning factory and office facility in Wallsend. The project is expected to commence early next month for completion in spring 2012.
On both projects SES will implement sophisticated off-site modularisation to prefabricate building services using聽 its PRISM(Prefabricated Integrated Services Modules) site in York, which will be beneficial in keeping costs to a minimum and reducing waste as well as helping to lower the risks associated with working on-site.聽
Speaking about these latest contract wins, which follow on from recently secured education contracts, Steve Joyce, regional director for SES in the North East, said;
鈥淲e are thrilled to have won these latest contracts and it is pleasing to be able to have secured further work on commercial projects in the region. We have significant experience in this area having worked on large scale factories for other high profile clients from which these two contracts benefit.鈥
Neil Matthias, project manager for Shepherd Construction said,
鈥淭he Narec project has numerous construction challenges and we were looking for a services partner that could work closely with us to deliver these unique structures. SES鈥檚 experience and expertise matched the project鈥檚 requirements.鈥
