Launched last year by RIBA Competitions on behalf of Central Salford URC, Salford City Council, Centre for Construction Innovation North West (CCINW), British Research Establishment, Salford University and NHS Salford, the competition invited architects to come up with designs for a development combining innovation and sustainability and respond to existing and anticipated lifestyle, health and educational needs of the community.
Since the competition was launched Central Salford URC has reluctantly been wound up, although Salford City Council is committed to taking the work they started forward and continuing to regenerate this part of the city.
Fifty nine entries were received at stage one of the competition and ten schemes were subsequently longlisted for interview.聽 Following interviews the jury panel identified three teams to proceed through to the second stage design phase of the competition.
The three shortlisted teams are:-
Cazenove Architects
White Arkitekter
Ian Simpson Architects and Gort Scott Architects
All three teams will now work with their associated consortia to develop their schemes and the winner will be announced in April at an exhibition to be held at the CUBE Gallery in Manchester.
