Robertson wins £2.2million contract to extend Michelin Factory

2 Dec 11 Infrastructure, support services and construction group Robertson has begun work on an extension to the Michelin Factory in Dundee.

The 拢2.2 million project is part of an ongoing programme of development and investment in the Dundee plant which has included, in recent years, the construction of two large wind turbines which are now familiar landmarks on the Dundee skyline.

The Baldovie Road factory manufactures over 7,000,000 car tyres each year for export all over the world. Opened in 1972 it currently employs nearly 1000 people and this latest investment signals a period of growth in production and growth in the number of employees at the plant.

The 1800 square metre extension will house three BNS Auto Machines involved in the production of the next generation of Michelin Energy Saver Tyres which not only help to reduce fuel consumption but also last longer than conventional tyres.

The first of the new machines is scheduled to arrive at the end of November with overall completion of the project in January 2012. Despite the challenging timescale Robertson are confident of achieving the deadline set by Michelin.

Sean O鈥機allaghan, regional Managing Director at Robertson said 鈥淲e have been in discussion with Michelin for a number of months about this project and are delighted to finally get started on site and add to the current list of excellent projects we have in Dundee and Tayside鈥.
