The move adds more than 1,500 environmental and health-science specialists in 21 countries and is seen by Nordic consultancy Ramboll as a major step for it becoming truly global.
The USA will now be Ramboll鈥檚 fourth-largest territory in revenue terms, after Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The merger also doubles the size of the UK team.
Ramboll calculates that the acquisition positions it among the top 10 leading environmental consultancies globally with 2,700 specialists working within the environment, health and water sectors worldwide and a total staff close to 12,500 employees in 35 countries.
The combined revenue of Ramboll and Environ exceeds 拢1bn, of which 34% will be generated outside the Nordic region.
Ramboll Group CEO Jens-Peter Saul said: 鈥淪trengthening our portfolio within environmental services and expanding into new attractive regions, specifically North America, has been a strategic priority for us since 2012. The acquisition of Environ is an important milestone in fulfilling this ambition. We are creating a fantastic platform for future growth and Ramboll moves a big step closer to becoming a truly global consultancy.鈥
Ramboll UK managing director Steve Canadine said: 鈥淲ithin the UK market, Environ represent a great fit. Working together we will be able to offer a much broader suite of services to clients and enjoy far greater presence within the UK environmental market. Their team of just under 200 people expands our UK team to 380 and also increases our UK network to 16 offices.鈥澛
Environ UK managing principal Matt Davies added: 鈥淭eaming up with a business that is so similar in terms of culture and approach is a hugely positive move. Our clients will continue to benefit from the advice, service and international reach on which we have built our reputation. What Ramboll brings is a greater breadth and depth of skill and experience, a larger footprint and excellent access into a number of strategic sectors for us 鈥 particularly the energy and oil and gas sectors 鈥 helping us to better support our clients as they expand.鈥
Ramboll said that, with Environ on board, its presence will now be particularly strong in the Nordics, North America, the UK, continental Europe (including France, Germany and Italy), Middle East and India, supplemented by a significant representation in Asia, Australia, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
