Gareth Scott Redford, 32, pleaded guilty to carrying out unsafe gas work following an investigation by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Cambridgeshire County Council Trading Standards (CCCTS).
Cambridge Crown Court heard how Mr Redford, a plumber, carried out gas work at four properties in the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire areas. Concerns were raised in 2014 and the homeowners of each property separately made complaints to Gas Safe Register.
The work he conducted at several properties was found to be unsafe, putting homeowners and residents at risk of harm.
The judge called him 鈥渁 classic cowboy plumber鈥.
Gareth Scott Redford of Blaydon Place, Sutton, Cambridgeshire pleaded guilty to 14 breaches under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and the Fraud Act 2006, and today he was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment.
HSE inspector Graeme Warden said after the case: 鈥淢r Redford put the homeowners and residents at risk of harm, when he conducted gas work while unregistered.鈥
