Philip has unrivalled experience in understanding and reconciling the needs of commercial developers with those of planners and other public authority requirements. He has over 20 years experience at a senior level in the public and private sectors and has worked alongside planners for the past seven years.
He was most recently Director of Major Sites for the London Borough of Newham, responsible for the post Olympic masterplans for Stratford and the Royal Docks. He was previously Assistant Director for City Centre Development for Birmingham City Council, responsible as Project Director for the Big City Plan and the Eastside Master Plan, and a senior member of Birmingham’s regeneration team.
At Birmingham he was also member of a wide range of panels, which defined briefs and chose design teams to execute important and high profile projects, including the £188m Library of Birmingham and the Eastside City Park.
Previously he worked for 14 years as an architect in the private sector during which time he designed award-winning buildings in Birmingham and Cheltenham.
Philip remains a highly respected judge for the British Construction Industry Awards and for the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award. He is also Chair of the RIBA Planning Group which is currently liaising with Government on the draft Localism Bill.
