Peel brings in Russells at Chatham Waters

24 Apr 15 Manchester-based Russells Construction has landed a £6.5m contract to build a supermarket in north Kent.

Peel Land & Property has appointed Russells Construction to build a new Asda superstore at the Chatham Waters development in Gillingham, Kent.

The 73,000 sq ft Asda forms part of the first phase of the 拢650m regeneration scheme on land at Chatham Waters.

Designed by AHR Architects, Russells鈥 project also includes the construction of a petrol station, parking for 400 cars, and landscaping. It is scheduled to be complete by summer 2015.

The contract builds on Russells鈥 existing relationship with Peel. The contractor previously built Peel鈥檚 Eastbank residential scheme in Ancoats, Manchester.

Nick Hey, project director at Peel Holdings, said: 鈥淲e are pleased to be working with Russells again to help deliver this major regeneration project. The team鈥檚 proven experience in the retail sector, including complex waterside schemes, will ensure that we can deliver our programme on time and within budget.鈥

The Chatham Waters project is set to transform a 1.9 million square feet heavy industrial site, creating 950 homes, 430,000 sq ft of offices and a hotel.
