The facility will produce 95 gross megawatts of renewable energy and significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to the authority鈥檚 landfill. The project also includes a visitor center, which will be used for educational purposes. There will also be sustainability features, including zero wastewater discharge, photovoltaic solar panels and rainwater harvesting. The facility is designed to have the cleanest air emissions of any waste-to-energy plant built in the USA to date.
鈥淭his particular project leverages all of the areas where CDM has expertise,鈥 said CDM associate Kevin Leo. 鈥淲e put together a competitive team with creativity and ingenuity, to offer a technically sound proposal at a very cost-effective price.鈥
The project is currently in the design phase, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2012 and be completed in 2015. It is anticipated that the project will employ more than 900 people over the course of construction, creating more than 300 full-time construction jobs.
