The stations along the Barrie GO Transit line will be built in Vaughan, Newmarket and Simcoe County.
鈥淲e are moving forward with the single-largest addition of new stations along the GO rail network since we started service nearly 50 years ago,鈥 said Bruce McCuaig, president and CEO of Metrolinx. 鈥淭hese new stations will bring improved transportation options closer to home to help everyone get where they need to go, faster and more efficiently.鈥
Plans for GO RER include electrification of core segments of the network by 2024. Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province's history -- about CA$160bn (拢90bn) over 12 years. Through the Moving Ontario Forward plan, Ontario is investing CA$31.5bn over 10 years for transit, transportation and other priority infrastructure projects across the province.
The proposed new GO train stations will be considered at this week鈥檚 Metrolinx Board of Directors meeting and are subject to funding availability, environmental assessment processes, and further planning, engineering and design work.
