The 162 week programme was completed in three phases and comprises 1,063 student accommodation units across seven blocks, 19,000 ft2 of retail accommodation split into six units, a 15,000ft2 Magnet store and seven further light industrial/retail units on a 10 acre site.聽 Located within close reach of Nottingham University鈥檚 Jubilee Campus, the student accommodation element of the scheme provides a mix of studio apartments and en-suite student bedrooms arranged in 3-5 bedroom clusters with communal living/dining/kitchen facilities.聽 Fully-landscaped with car parking, secure bicycle storage and fob access security, the student complex also includes a gym, a common room, internet service for every student room and 24/7 security and CCTV.
The final phase of the scheme involved construction of 440 student units in the final two accommodation blocks and follows the successful completion of phases 1 & 2 in August 2009 and July 2010 respectively.聽 The Lewis & Hickey-designed scheme incorporates a number of green features, including biomass boilers and rain water harvesting, building on Ocon鈥檚 reputation for sustainable construction.
Comments Ocon鈥檚 project manager, Malcolm Lyon: 鈥淭his is a very significant scheme for Nottingham which has seen us transform an outdated retail park and a disused transport yard into 21st century student accommodation which is comfortable, secure and environmentally responsible.聽 It not only continues our enviable track record in the student accommodation sector but also highlights our skills in delivering complex mixed use and retail schemes to programme, marking our success in diversifying the business as we grow.鈥
