NZ awards third schools PPP package

13 Apr 17 The New Zealand government has awarded its third schools public-private partnership (PPP) contract.

Cimic Group鈥檚 role in the project spans design, construction and financing of four new primary schools plus the relocation of two high schools. The contract will generate revenue to Cimic of approximately NZ$113m (拢63m) over the design and construction period. Cimic鈥檚 CPB Contractors will deliver the design and construction program as part of a 60:40 joint venture with Christchurch-based company Southbase Construction. Fellow Cimic business Pacific Partnerships, together with HRL Morrison & Co, will provide financing for 25 years. Operational services will be performed by Spotless.

Three of the new primary schools in the third New Zealand Schools PPP initiative are in Auckland and the other is in Hamilton. The work also includes the relocation and co-location of Shirley Boys鈥 High School and Avonside Girls鈥 High School in Christchurch, as well as operational services for the schools for 25 years.

The agreement contains an expansion mechanism under which the Ministry of Education has the right to add additional schools to the project.

The project鈥檚 construction phase is scheduled to start in July 2017, with the schools set to open in 2019.
