The Confederation of Timber Industries has been set up to provide a lobbying vehicle that represents the full supply chain of the timber industry. Spearheaded by the Timber Trade Federation (TTF), it also includes bodies that range from the Building Research Establishment to the Canadian High Commission. Other members include the Builders Merchant Federation and the Confederation of Paper Industries. It does not, however, include the British Woodworking Federation, which withdrew from merger talks with the TTF earlier this year. ()
Chief executive is Dirk Vennix, a Dutchman who previously headed the Association of British Bookmakers. He joined that organisation from the from the Tobacco Manufacturers鈥 Association (TMA), where he was director of communications. So he should find timber an easy sell.
Dirk Vennix commented: "I am delighted to take on this fantastic opportunity to make a difference to the timber supply chain sector. I want to grow the various links in the supply chain and make wood the product of choice. I am looking forward to talking to all stakeholders in the timber supply chain and building more relationships with a wide range of important partners. The CTI is committed to providing key deliverables in the areas of growth, skills and sustainability by 2016.鈥
The Confederation of Timber Industries is based at the Building Centre in London's Store Street.
