The two spaces will need to perform a number of different roles and have defined spaces to stimulate the imagination and offer fun and physical play challenges whilst also providing distinct spaces for quiet and escape. The first internal space has been conceived as the 鈥榣iving room鈥� of the hospital containing exaggerated familiar domestic objects which divide the space for refuge and play and which encourage exploration.
The new roof garden has been imagined as a forest landscape with protection from wind and rain but expansive views over the city. It is a place to run around, play hide-and-seek, chat relax or just experience nature. The forest floor guides the visitor through the space to a teepee 鈥榯ree house鈥� and stage area and real tree trunks support a rolling lattice canopy structure above.
The intention is that both will be magical spaces for patients and visitors to find refuge in the hospital.
