Mr Carter joined Portakabin last year as managing director and now takes over the top job from Stephen Price, who retires after 17 years at the helm. Mr Price remains a non-executive director of the Shepherd Group.
The new CEO was previously chief executive of Fairline, the boatbuilder, and before that headed up Lewmar, a supplier of hardware to the marine industry. He is an accountant by profession and is active in the CBI.
Commenting on his new role, Mr Carter said that he had international expansion plans for Portakabin. 鈥淚 have joined an exciting, forward-thinking company which delivers buildings of the highest quality, consistently on time and to budget, in some of the most challenging situations 鈥 all of which remain fundamental to this great British brand,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e will continue to build on its strength and reputation while growing existing markets and expanding into new markets in Europe and ultimately internationally.鈥
