The building is being constructed for BioMed Realty Trust Inc., which owns and operates the Granta Park scientific research centre. It will house the new European headquarters for biomedical company Illumina, which specialises in genomics and genetic research technology.

The new three-storey concrete-frame building will have scientific research space, including a data centre capable of handling Illumina鈥檚 significant data requirement. Internal area will amount to 14,400m2 (155,000 square feet).

Morgan Sindall area director Bob Ensch said: 鈥淭he Array Multiplex building is a key development on Granta Park and we鈥檙e very pleased to have been appointed to this significant project. The building will utilise next-generation 鈥榮mart鈥 technology and help to ensure the building operates at optimum capacity throughout its lifetime. Our project team will draw on knowledge gleaned from its extensive experience delivering world-class research facilities and will be bringing that insight to bear on this development.鈥

Sustainable features including brise soleil vertical solar shading panels will help to maintain the building鈥檚 temperature and prevent overheating. The building will also have a three-storey winter garden.

Morgan Sindall is already on site at two projects for the University of Cambridge. The company is constructing the university鈥檚 拢40.8m Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology facility and is also delivering the university鈥檚 new 拢8.8m Department of Engineering hub.
