Morgan Sindall taps up Laing O'Rourke director

30 Apr 14 Morgan Sindall has recruited Nick Fletcher from Laing O’Rourke to be its new managing director of civil engineering.

He is taking overall responsibility for Morgan Sindall鈥檚 Infrastructure, Tunnelling and Utility Services businesses. The managing directors of these businesses will now report directly to Mr Fletcher, who will also have responsibility for the company鈥檚 Aviation business.

聽A chartered civil engineer and graduate of the University of Ulster, Mr Fletcher joins from Laing O鈥橰ourke, where he was operations director of its Infrastructure division.聽 Before that, he was managing director of Laing O鈥橰ourke Ireland.

He reports directly to Graham Shennan, managing director of the Construction division that contributed more than 拢1bn revenues last year to parent Morgan Sindall Group plc.

Graham Shennan said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a pleasure to welcome Nick to our executive team. He will be a major asset in helping us drive the business forward and meet our ambitious performance targets.鈥

聽Nick Fletcher said: 鈥淢organ Sindall has a powerful market position across its three civil engineering businesses and I鈥檓 looking forward to leading a team that has proven itself time and again in successfully delivering large scale and complex infrastructure projects.鈥

Current schemes for which he will now be taking on responsibility at Morgan Sindall include the 拢290m A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road and the 拢44m renewal of Manchester Victoria railway station.

The Utility Services business is on National Grid鈥檚 Electricity Alliance Central (EAC) framework, upgrading the UK鈥檚 electrical transmission聽infrastructure as part of a five year agreement which runs until March 2017.聽聽

聽The Tunnelling business of Morgan Sindall, as part of joint venture MVB, has now completed the primary tunnelling works on the Lee Tunnel project for Thames Water. Secondary lining works and the installation of pumps and associated equipment is now underway. The east London project is worth more than 拢208m to Morgan Sindall.
