More contracts let for KL-Singapore high-speed rail

12 May 17 A joint venture of Systra and Meinhardt has won two consultancy contracts for reference designs on the high-speed railway that will link Singapore with Kuala Lumpur (KL) in Malaysia.

The two reference design consultant (RDC) contracts were awarded by MyHSR Corporation, the company responsible for the development and promotion of the project in Malaysia.

The first contract (RDC01) covers the civil reference design works of the two international stations within Malaysia: Bandar Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur and Iskandar Puteri at the southern end of the Malaysian alignment. The second contract (RDC03) covers the civil reference design works covering the first 38km from Bandar Malaysia Station to the state border between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Aecom, WSP and Mott MacDonald are among other firms that have recently won work on the scheme.

Systra CEO Pierre Verzat said: 鈥淲e are proud to have been awarded these contracts. This is a very prestigious project that all the world鈥檚 major engineering companies want to work on and we are honoured to have been selected. Together with our partners, we look forward to working with MyHSR Corporation to deliver this transformational project.鈥

Meinhardt Group CEO Omar Shahzad said: 鈥淲e are excited to be working with Systra and other partners to undertake this iconic transportation project in Southeast Asia. This win gives a major impetus to our collaboration with Systra to leverage our complementary skillsets, capabilities and local presence across the transportation sector.鈥

The high-speed rail project will connect seven cities in Malaysia to Singapore. The new link will reduce travel times between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to 90 minutes and connect smaller cities in Peninsular Malaysia to the two major cities.
