MMG to study Yorkshire routes

11 Jun 15 Consultants have been commissioned to explore how technology can improve the strategic road network in Yorkshire.

Consulting engineer joint venture Mott MacDonald Grontmij (MMG JV) has secured two technology work orders through Lot 1 of Highways England鈥檚 professional services framework.

MMG JV will provide feasibility studies to identify potential technology improvements on selected routes in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Investigation and preliminary design works will be undertaken on Ouse Bridge, junctions 4 and 5 of the M180 and junctions 32 to 35 of the M62. The JV will also examine possible technology improvements for the A63/A1033 through and around Hull, the A64 around York and the South Humber Bank network of the M180 and A180.

Highways England is in the process of prioritising asset renewals and improvements over the next five years. This study will be used to support its strategic objectives of sustaining economic growth, improving the environment and providing a safe, serviceable, free-flowing, accessible and integrated network, the engineers said.

Mott MacDonald鈥檚 director of transport technology Nabil Abou-Rahme said: 鈥淭he key to these studies will be to understand the network and its constraints. A number of options will be identified and developed into preliminary designs. Highways England will then decide whether to take them forward into detailed design.鈥

MMG JV is expected to complete its feasibility work by the end of 2015.
