Pontio聽will house a new theatre, studio theatre, cinema, restaurant and bars. It will also be home to the students union and will have several teaching and learning spaces.
Construction is expected to begin on the site on Deiniol Road, Bangor in May/June, with completion scheduled for 2014.
The project is made trickier by the steep slope on which it will be built. The 10,000 square metre building will provide a link from the Memorial Arch to the university鈥檚 main building.
The design team includes Atkins as engineer and architects Grimshaw, with Arup providing theatre consultancy.
Bangor University director of estates Dylan Roberts said: 鈥淧ontio is a superb project and we are looking forward to working with Miller.鈥�
鈥橫eet the contractor鈥� events are being planned, in conjunction with Gwynedd Council, to promote opportunities for vocational training during the construction period, and to help provide opportunities for local labour and businesses.
