The council said that it expects to save 拢1m over the 10-year term of the contract.
The deal includes repairs and maintenance services for all council housing stock 鈥� more than 3,000 properties 鈥� as well as garages and communal areas. There will be works to modernise properties, as well as a variety of large maintenance projects such as the installation of new bathrooms and kitchens and decorating to the exterior of properties.
A new service providing 鈥榩roperty MOTs鈥� to 600 properties a year is also being launched.
Medway Council鈥檚 portfolio holder for housing Cllr Howard Doe said: 鈥淲e are always striving to deliver the best services to our tenants and with Mears on board with this new contract, we can continue to provide an efficient and quality repairs and maintenance service to those living in council accommodation.鈥�
In a trading update this morning Mears said that it had secured new social housing contracts totalling 拢70m since the start of the year and trading remained in line with expectations. "While the speed of new opportunities coming through has been slower than we anticipated, the bid pipeline remains unchanged at 拢3.0bn," it said.
