The scope of works on the St Peter鈥檚 Waterside site includes the demolition of residential properties on Northampton鈥檚 Tanner Street alongside the demolition of commercial buildings across a 2ha site.聽
The tight town centre location, bordered by main roads and close to both a river and railway station, has called for careful planning to ensure minimum disruption to the local community, Masterton said. Project manager Matt Harvey said: 鈥淲e are ensuring that noise and dust are carefully managed to minimise disruption to both residents and nearby businesses. In addition, we鈥檙e making sure that the wildlife on the nearby river is protected throughout the project.鈥
As well as safeguarding nearby natural habitats, Masterton also established opportunities to recycle materials from the demolition. Arisings, including bricks and timber, are being separated and 95% will be left on site to be used as back fill for the new development.
Masterton will hand the site back to WNDC in December following the 10-week demolition contract.
