Mansell launches Balfour Beatty apprenticeships in Southampton

22 Jul 11 Local people in the south of England are set to benefit from training and job opportunities thanks to the launch by Mansell, in Southampton yesterday, of the Balfour Beatty Apprenticeships scheme.

Mansell is the regional building subsidiary of Balfour Beatty, and through its numerous construction projects will deliver the Apprenticeships scheme, which is one that operates a flexible and sustainable shared model, offering young people the chance to participate in apprenticeship training whilst moving between and working within a number of businesses in Mansell鈥檚 supply chain. This ensures continuity of employment, security, and breadth of on-the-job experience to ensure achievement of the full apprenticeship framework.

The conference was attended by representatives from education, local authority, business and regeneration, and included presentations by Keith Heard, Senior Programme Manager, Improvement and Efficiency South East (IESE); Hazel Warwick, Development Director, First Wessex; Dawn Baxendale, Director of Economic Development, Southampton City Council; Commander Bob White, Royal Navy; and Angela Wright, Chief Executive Officer, Solent Education and Business Partnership.

Mansell鈥檚 Regional Managing Director, Andy Duff, said: 鈥淲e are committed to providing added value to the local communities in which we deliver our services, including regeneration initiatives. We are focussed on finding new, practical solutions to achieving increased apprenticeships and training opportunities, giving young people a future.鈥

The apprenticeships will be rolled out nationally.聽
