Lovell and Three Oaks Homes rustle up new-look kitchen for sheltered housing residents " raising £500 for charity

10 Dec 10 A team from housing refurbishment specialist Lovell has carried out a makeover of a communal kitchen at a Leicestershire sheltered housing scheme to raise money for charity.

They transformed the room at Brook Court sheltered housing scheme, in Countesthorpe, in just eight hours.

The charity challenge raised around 拢250 with social housing provider Three Oaks Homes, which manages Brook Court, matching the amount so that a total of 拢500 has been raised for Children in Need.

Three Oaks Homes is working in partnership with contractor Lovell to carry out a major improvement programme to its homes and communities.

Elaine Whatsize, TOH investment programme assistant, says: "It's great聽to have worked with Lovell to raise money for Children in Need and to also聽improve the聽shared kitchen for our聽tenants at Brook Court.鈥 The ground-floor kitchen is well used by residents who hold coffee mornings and other social events at the scheme.

Christian Liquorish, Lovell resident liaison officer, comments: 鈥淭he kitchen was looking a bit run-down so we thought we鈥檇 help out residents by sending in a team to give it a makeover, for free, and that it would be fun to raise money for Children in Need at the same time.鈥 The team fitted new cupboards, a worktop and sink as well as tiling and redecorating the kitchen.

Lovell was helped by a number of its subcontractor partners including electrical services company Farrendale, plumbing company Matthews and Tannert; Steve Diston Carpets; tiling firm Steven Durham; Roberts painting and decorating and skip company Wastecycle.

During the kitchen makeover, Lovell and Three Oaks Homes collected money for the charity and held fundraising events, including a tombola and cake stall, throughout the day.
