Wates Construction, the contractor working on the project, has appointed the Doncaster-based painting company to deliver a 拢150,000 work package to decorate the 157,500 sq ft building鈥檚 interior, including its walls, ceilings and skirting boards.
Currently working with Wates on site of the new civic offices, Magill will complete the contract in two phases. The first will see the contractor decorate the internal concrete soffits, with the second phase of interior decoration commencing in April 2012 as the final internal finishes of the building take place.聽
Once complete, the 14,635 sq m five-storey civic offices will become home to聽1,400 Doncaster Council employees and will provide a one-stop-shop of council services for local residents.
Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: 鈥滻 am obviously delighted another local business has secured a significant work contract. It was always the intention to offer local people and businesses the opportunity to bid for work packages during the construction of the town鈥檚 Civic and Cultural Quarter and this is another success story. There are some major building projects underway in Doncaster so there should be plenty of opportunities coming up in the near future.鈥
David Price, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction, Yorkshire,聽commented: 鈥淚t has always been our intention to use this project as a means to boosting local commerce and through the appointment of Doncaster-based companies as sub-contractors and suppliers we are able to do this. We are delighted that Magill Painting Contractors Ltd has won this considerable work package and look forward to our ongoing work together as the building continues to take shape.鈥
Magill Painting Contractors Ltd was awarded the work following a Meet the Buyer event, which was hosted by Wates in partnership with Doncaster Council鈥檚 Invest in Doncaster team. The event, held in January this year, provided local businesses with information on the projects and ensured local companies were given the opportunity to tender for the available contracts.
Simon Magill, Managing Director of Magill Painting Contractors, added: "We are extremely proud to be awarded this project which is one of the largest projects to be built in Doncaster in recent years. It will keep a large number of our workforce busy in 2012. We appreciate Wates Construction's commitment to employing local companies to carry out the work and look forward to working with Wates on future projects.鈥
Construction on Doncaster Council鈥檚 new Civic Offices began in November 2010, and forms part of Doncaster鈥檚 new Civic and Cultural Quarter (CCQ).
The regeneration scheme has been commissioned by Doncaster Council and its development partner, Muse Developments, part funded by the European Union, as part of the European Regional Development Fund.
Magill Painting Contractors has also been awarded a 拢90,000 decorating contract for Doncaster Council鈥檚 new 拢10m Campsmount Technology College, also being delivered by Wates. The school, which was commissioned by Doncaster Council鈥檚 education build team, with support from The Department for Education (DfE), is due for completion in February 2012.
Earlier this year Doncaster鈥檚 Danum Windows Ltd and Senior Architectural Systems were also appointed as suppliers and subcontractors for the construction of Campsmount Technology College, with a contract value in excess of 拢500,000.
Invest in Doncaster is promoting further work packages amongst the Doncaster-based companies and can be contacted on Tel: 01302 737 447.
