Lincolnshire contractor buys Volvo compact excavators

3 Mar 16 A Lincolnshire-based civil engineering and surfacing contractor has added six new Volvo compact excavators to its plant fleet.

Flexi Dig has taken delivery of the excavators from Volvo鈥檚 utility dealer for the area, Rickmar Plant Sales.

Deciding on the Volvos was a new step for managing director Alistair Bett, who established the company in August 2002 as an owner operator and was joined by his brother Richard 10 years ago. 鈥淲ith several prestigious contracts recently awarded we felt it was time to replace some of our older compact excavators and select a premium brand that reflected the right image for the company,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e had some experience with the Volvo product from hiring their 5 tonne and 6 tonne zero-swing models and were quite impressed with the performance and build quality. Relationships are equally important and we have established a good rapport with Rickmar Plant Sales on parts availability and supply for some of our other machines. They put together a very competitive package to trade out our old machines so we felt confident in making our decision to purchase the new Volvos.鈥

The six new machines range from the 1.8t EC18D up to the 8.8t ECR88D; in between are two of the EC27C as well as an EC35C and an ECR58D. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been particularly impressed with the Volvo ECR88D in terms of its performance, stability and digging ability,鈥 said Bett. 鈥淥ur operators have certainly appreciated our decision to purchase Volvo.鈥

The new range of excavators join Flexi Dig鈥檚 fleet of equipment which includes excavators up to 12t in operating weight, site dumpers and rollers. The machines will be deployed on the company鈥檚 own projects which range from general groundworks to renewable activities involving the construction of solar parks and wind farms. Flexi Dig, which is based at Yarburgh, also operates a surfacing division that undertakes work for the local authorities and housebuilders.
