Florence Court, situated on Rutland Crescent, has been constructed in response to Wiltshire Council鈥檚 growing need for housing for older people. One of the first of many facilities that will be built in the area over the next few years, it will provide senior residents of Wiltshire with independent living, whilst being more efficient and cost effective to run than traditional residential homes.
The development consists of 40 two-bedroom extra care flats primarily for elderly residents, plus two three-bedroom supported living bungalows for people with learning disabilities. Associated communal facilities include a caf茅 and dining area, lounge, library, hairdressers, IT suite and treatment and medical room. Residents will have access to 24 hour care and support, and the surrounding community can take advantage of the communal facilities.
The scheme involved the demolition of an existing 1960s Wiltshire Council hostel facility and the construction of a three-storey building complete with contrasting brick elevations and a tiled roof. Leadbitter also incorporated a soft landscaping design with a dedicated area for residents to have their own cultivation and vegetable growing plots.
The apartments, which are fully equipped with the latest equipment to help elderly or disabled people live an independent lifestyle, are available for rent or shared ownership.
John Parry, Operations Director of Leadbitter鈥檚 Central Housing division, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to have completed our latest extra care housing development on behalf of bpha. First-class extra care schemes like this one are in high demand, and Florence Court sets a high standard for future developments. We鈥檙e confident it will make a real difference for its residents and the greater Wiltshire community.鈥
Sarah Ireland, Assistant Development Director at bpha, said: 鈥淔lorence Court is a fantastic example of the quality homes bpha is making available to residents living in the Trowbridge area. This new development, with its rent and shared ownership options, will provide more people with a home of their own, complete with the care facilities that they need.鈥
