Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce and Laing O'Rourke CEO Steve Hollingshead attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new centre, which is the first of its kind built for Qantas in 20 years. The project is due for compleition by September 2012.
The scheme increases Laing O'Rourke's presence at Brisbane Airport, where its teams are building a nine-level car park, and the new access project between the terminal, Airtrain, and car park.
The Qantas catering facility will include a new 8000m虏 building, 120-space car park, truck docks and associated works. It is located inside the main airport precinct.
Joyce said catering was fundamental to Qantas operations and maintaining customer service standards. "This new centre will incorporate state of the art design and technology and will increase Q Catering's annual production capacity in Brisbane by 25%, to almost 11 million meals," he said.
