The Post Building

The Post Building is a 320,000 sq ft mixed-use redevelopment of the former Royal Mail Sorting Office at 21-31 New Oxford Street. It is being developed by Oxford Properties and Brockton Capital in joint venture to a design by architect AHMM. Oxford Properties is the real estate business of OMERS, the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System.

The building is located on an island block bordered by New Oxford Street, High Holborn and Museum Street in the west end of London. It will be the new London headquarters of management consultant McKinsey.

Planned works include the retention of the mass of the original building, significant remodelling of the building interiors including the provision of a new central core, a new stainless fa莽ade and creation of innovative office accommodation which will make use of the significant floor to ceiling heights within the building's original structure.

The planned partial demolition of the original 1960s Royal Mail sorting office has now been completed by John F Hunt and Laing O鈥橰ourke 鈥 appointed at the end of 2015 鈥 has now begun the main construction phase. There will be 270,000 sq ft of offices with one-acre floorplates. Every floor will have its own roof terraces.

During the planning process the local council also set out aspirations to improve the public areas around the site. The historic route of Dunn鈥檚 Passage will therefore be reopened. 聽

Liam Cummins, head of UK construction at Laing O鈥橰ourke, said: 鈥淲e are proud to be working with both Oxford Properties and Brockton Capital on what we think will become an iconic London building. Work has already begun on site and we are looking forward to bringing the client鈥檚 vision to fruition.鈥

The project is scheduled to complete in 2018.
