Select has 11 mobile telescopic-boom cranes, mostly Terex models up to 200-tonne capacity, which it bought primarily to erect its own tower cranes, which form the major part of the Select operation.
Laing O鈥橰ourke鈥檚 decision to sell the mobile cranes now is presumed to be in response to a downturn in commercial high-rise construction and tower crane utilisation. Select operates one of the largest fleets of tower cranes in the UK, although its size has come down from 250 to about 175 in the past few years. Laing O鈥橰ourke already relies on Ainscough for most of its tower crane erection work.
News of the sale was broken on specialist lifting website Vertikal, to whom Ainscough gave the following statement: 鈥淎inscough Crane Hire is in discussions with Select Plant Hire Company to buy 11 mobile cranes. Select commenced consultation with the relevant employees on the potential transfer to Ainscough on the 16th of November 2016 and both parties expect to conclude the transaction soon. Ainscough and Select look forward to continuing their successful working partnership following the conclusion of the transaction.鈥
