Initially, the college will welcome 165 students and offers approximately 3,600sqm of purpose built facilities; a two-storey teaching block and changing area for the students, along with a separate fabrication yard and workshop.
The facility will allow The North Highland College to deliver engineering programmes and modern apprenticeships in partnership with employers, in a modern, practical setting which replicates an industrial environment.
Donald McLachlan, operations director of Morrison Construction, said: 鈥淚 am absolutely thrilled to be handing over the keys to this amazing building today and I know that staff, students and the community are looking forward to having their first glimpse inside of the newly completed Centre.聽 It is an outstanding facility and we are very proud of the quality of work we have produced.鈥�
The North Highland College Principal, Dr Gordon Jenkins, said: 鈥淥n behalf of the College students and staff, I am delighted to receive the keys for such a state of the art building from Morrison Construction and thank and congratulate them for the work they have done.
鈥淭he provision of this facility demonstrates the commitment of our funders, and the Board of North Highland College, to provide the best possible educational experience for our learners. We look forward to working in partnership with employers and our other stakeholders to ensure that we maximise the benefit of these facilities for the whole community.鈥�
The new centre has been funded by Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Scottish Funding Council, European Regional Development Funding and Highland Council.
