Keepmoat has purchased the former Barrs soft drink factory in Wigan which has lain derelict for years. 聽Work is expected to start this month on the construction of 194 new homes on the site, ranging from two to four bedrooms. The development is to be called Cottonfields.

This is Keepmoat鈥檚 first new housing scheme in Wigan and is looking to work with the local council to regenerate more areas in the town.

Keepmoat regional managing director Gareth Roberts said: 鈥淲e very much specialise in providing homes for the first time buyer market and so we鈥檙e excited to be bringing our offer to Wigan.聽 Our focus is on affordable quality and more than 70% of the homes we sell are to those taking that first step on the ladder.

鈥淯nlike many of our competitors in the region, 95% of our new homes are also built on brownfield sites and so we鈥檙e delighted to have established a partnership with Wigan Council that will hopefully allow us to deliver much-needed new homes in the town on surplus land.

鈥淢ore importantly 鈥 this major regeneration project will create employment and training opportunities throughout the build process so we can put back into the local economy.鈥
