According to the Berkeley Group, there will be more homeless people on the streets of London if the UK votes to leave the European Union.

The UK government is committed to holding a referendum by the end of 2017 on whether or not to remain a member of the European Union. Tony Pidgley says he and his company are firmly against what some have dubbed 'Brexit鈥 (and thus in favour of what no one has yet called 鈥Brin鈥).

鈥淏erkeley is a supporter of the UK remaining in Europe as this is the best way for London to remain a world city,鈥 Mr Pidgley said. 鈥淭here is no doubt, however, that for business to thrive, we must not be bound by over-regulation, be this from our own government or from Europe.鈥

Berkeley is building 10% of all new homes in London and 10% of the capital's affordable homes across 74 sites.聽 This creates economic value of 拢1.4bn and sustains some 12,000 jobs, he said.

Berkeley managing director Rob Perrins said that staying in Europe was crucial to solving UK housing shortages, especially in the capital. 鈥淟ondon's continued pre-eminence as a world city is a critical factor in addressing the capital's housing shortage,鈥 Mr Perrins said. 鈥淚t attracts the investment to fund development, as well as the diverse range of expertise and talent that make London such a unique place.

鈥淔or this reason, Berkeley considers it important that the UK continues to play a major role in, and operate as part of, the European Union.鈥
