KBR to build missile defence facility

19 Jul 13 KBR has been selected to build the facilities to support Europe’s first land-based ballistic missile defence system.

The facilities will be built on a 269-acre site at Romania鈥檚 Deveselu Air Base under a USS$134m (拢88m) contract for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District.

It be the world鈥檚 first operational installation of the Aegis Ashore missile defence system, which is a land-based variant of the Navy鈥檚 shipboard Aegis Air and Ballistic Missile Defense System.

Under the contract, KBR will relocate a four-storey radar deckhouse structure from the east coast of the USA to Romania. In Romania, KBR will build all of the facilities and infrastructure required to support the Aegis Ashore weapon system including roads, support buildings, communications, security and utilities.
